We had a beautiful spring day in October 2016 and I took my son down to a little beach south of Cronulla.
He’d never been there before and I wanted to take him somewhere different. You have to walk down a path and a set of stairs to access the beach which is surrounded by rocks.
It was one of the first warm days of the season and everyone had come out to enjoy it. The water was a little icy for me but it was crystal clear,
There were boats moored in the bay and people snorkelling and floating around in giant inflatable watermelon slices. Good times.
I took quite a few pics that day, hoping to capture some memories and moments from which I could later paint. It took a while - several months - but I finally got to it.
I decided to paint small so I could finish it in one sitting - a challenge I've been embracing lately.
I ended up with this painting of a couple who were sun baking on the hill. They just looked really happy.
I wish I knew who they were so I could give this little painting to them!
