Experimenting with Style

My biggest problem with painting (and with art in general) is this: I want to try everything.

I want to make paintings that are super realistic and I want to make paintings that don't represent a single thing.

I want to paint big, small and everywhere in between. I want to get stuck into the detail and I want to focus on the big picture.

Why?

I have two theories. One is that I'm experimenting to find my true calling, the style that I want to stick with and be known for (albeit by a handful of people!).

The other is that I genuinely like all types of art and just want to get in amongst it. All of it. I feel like a kid arriving at the park and not knowing whether to run for the swing, the slippery dip, the climbing net or cartwheel over to the sand pit.

Anyway, the most recent result of this experimentation in style is this latest painting; Kiama. It's a large painting on canvas where I've focused on the light and the greater shapes in the landscape. I'm happy with the result and have already began working on the next in the series which I'll share shortly.

KIAMA - Acrylic on Canvas

Do you like to do all the stuff?
