I was scrolling through Instagram rather early this morning (sleep doesn't always come when requested) and was hit with a post from Elizabeth Gilbert.
She's written a new book and it's coming in 2019. Which, if you're anything like me, is really soon. And very exciting!
I absolutely adored her book The Signature of All Things, a meaty commitment which I reviewed here: https://www.lisamayturner.com/single-post/2018/10/04/A-Book-I-LOVED
But Liz G says her new book, City of Girls, is completely different to The Signature of All Things - here's a snippet from her Insta post:
The novel tells the story of Vivian Morris — a reckless 19-year-old girl from a nice family, who gets kicked out of college in 1940 for poor grades and ends up moving to New York City to live with her eccentric Aunt Peg, who owns a burlesque-type theater company in midtown Manhattan. Vivian falls in with a crowd of showgirls and playboys, actors and dancers — all of them eager to ignore the approaching drumbeat of war, and to give themselves over, instead, to pleasure and decadence. . It’s a fun book, you guys. I think you’ll like it. And after writing THE SIGNATURE OF ALL THINGS, I really, really, really wanted to create a female character who finally gets to have a lot of sex— and on her own terms. Thank god.
How good does that sound?!
